In social studies we have been discussing the civil war, slavery, and the underground railroad. Watch the video below and think about all the things we have discussed so far. After hearing the story "More Than Anything Else" I want you to think about what you want more than anything else and explain your thinking. There is no right or wrong answer, but you NEED to back up your thinking.
You have blogged 9 weeks so far! I want to know how blogging has helped you in our classroom. What have you learned from blogging week to week. What skills do you think you have gained? Do you like blogging or dislike it? Explain. Your response should be 6-10 sentences.
One of the skills you will be required to use in 4th grade is using multiple sources to help you answer a question or write a summary. I have three sources I would like you to use to write a summary about game based learning. First, watch the video below about game based learning. Next, watch the news story about gaming in school. Finally, click the link button below. Read about a 3rd grader who thinks games are the answer. While you are viewing each source be sure you are taking notes so you can write a summary. Your summary should explain what game based learning is and why it is important.
Click the link below to watch a short video about comparing fractions with unlike denominators in a word problem. Once you have finished watching the video complete the problem. Check out my example before you complete your own problem. ExampleSpencer bought 7/9 of the items on his shopping list yesterday. Charles bought 4/5 of the items on his shopping list. Who bought a greater fraction of the items on his shopping list? Explain your thinking. sample answer: multiples of 9- 9,18,27,36,45 multiples of 5- 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45 5/5 x 7/9 = 35/45 9/9 x 4/5 = 36/45 35/45 < 36/45 or 7/9 < 4/5 Charles bought more on his shopping list. 4/5 is greater than 7/9 because when I found equivalent fractions with the least common multiple of 45, I know 36 is bigger than 35. This proves Charles bought more on his list. Your turn!Jack and Tom had the same amount of cookies to sell. Jack sold out 7/10 of the cookies and Tom sold out 9/14 of the cookies. Who sold out the greater fraction of cookies?
Be sure to answer the question completely. USE MY EXAMPLE RESPONSE TO GUIDE YOU!! Watch the entire video below before you begin this weeks blog post! This week you will be looking at different number lines and explaining how you know which faction goes where on the line between 0 and 1. Please look at my example below. I do not just give the answer. I clearly explain how I know. The same expectation is set for you. Example11. I know letter B represents 4/6 on the number line. I know this because 1/2 is also equal to 3/6. Letter B is placed after the 1/2 but is closer to 1/2 compared to letter C. 12. I know letter C represents 5/6 because 1 whole is also equal to 6/6. C is placed before 6/6 and after 4/6. Look at the number lines below. Be sure to answer all questions completely. Refer to my example for guidance.
Read each passage and then respond to the questions. Each question will ask you to make a logical inference based on textual details. Explain your answer by referencing the text.
Every day after work Paul took his muddy boots off on the steps of the front porch. Alice would have a fit if the boots made it so far as the welcome mat. He then took off his dusty overalls and threw them into a plastic garbage bag; Alice left a new garbage bag tied to the porch railing for him every morning. On his way in the house, he dropped the garbage bag off at the washing machine and went straight up the stairs to the shower as he was instructed. He would eat dinner with her after he was “presentable,” as Alice had often said. 1. What type of job does Paul work? How do you know? 2. Describe Alice. What in the text supports your description? 3. What relationship do Paul and Alice have? Why do you feel this way? “Tommy!” Mom called out as she walked in the front door. “Tommy,” she continued shouting, “I sure could use some help with these groceries. There was still no reply. Mom walked into the kitchen to put the grocery bags down on the counter when she noticed shattered glass from the picture window all over the living room floor and a baseball not far from there. “I’m going to kill you, Tommy!” Mom yelled to herself as she realized that Tommy’s shoes were gone. 4. What happened to the window? How do you know this? 5. Why did Tommy leave? What in the text supports your description? Thanksgiving is Thursday! I can't wait to sit back and enjoy the delicious meal my mom makes! You have until Thursday to write me a persuasive letter convincing me to NOT eat the turkey. Check out the photos below to remind you about persuasive writing, friendly letter format, and an example of a persuasive letter. The example letter is written from the turkey's perspective. You can write from either your perspective or the turkey's, but I do not want to see the example letter rewritten. Remember you need to post BY Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving! This week you were asked to create a bumper sticker about the theme of your book. What I noticed is this was very difficult for some of you. Check out the picture below to refresh your mind about the different themes we have discussed in class. Watch the Disney Short "A Cloudy Lesson". Once you have completed watching the video I want you to explain what the theme of the video is and support your answer with two examples from the video. With the celebration of Veterans Day, I want you to watch the video above and respond to the question below.
